I worry about this so much! With my own teens and the world in general. How do we develop empathy and awareness and depth, as you point out, without reading?! I read so much as a teenager and those stories made me dream and plan and develop passions...can you really find that kind of growth and expansion on tik tok? These are the things that keep me up at night!

My 14yo did just finish a very difficult book for 9th grade English (The Book Thief) and I'm proud of her for getting through it. I think she eventually liked it and was glad she finished it. Maybe there's hope??

Next Ship Home- about 2 Italian immigrant sisters coming to the States in 1914/15. SO GOOD! I’m also in book 15 of a series I can’t put down or get enough of- Elm Creek Quilt series- so much historical fiction, I’m hooked. There are 21 or 22 in the series and I worry about what to do when I finish them all.
